Clem Jones was at the time one of the members of the Gentlemen’s Club - told of vacant land at Bulimba that was owned by the Brisbane City Council and was ideal for this concept. Initially the Queensland Sporting Club Inc. was to get all the land originally offered. However, this did not happen and the only section of the envisioned sporting facility developed was the 3 Par golf course and the clubhouse. Therefore, since The Queensland Sporting Club Inc. had already registered its name, they were unable to change it to its now informal name – the Bulimba Golf Club. The club has decided to hold its name also for historic purposes. The Gabba Gentlemen’s Club founded the Queensland Sporting Club Inc. in 1963. This club comprised of a group of businessmen from many industries who informally met at The Morrison Hotel at Woolloongabba. At one of their informal gatherings the concept of opening a club consisting of a 3 Par golf course, a swimming pool, a fishing club and lawn bowls facilities were discussed.
